FULTON Class Submarine Tender, KIT #11
The Fulton Class of AS's were designed to provide maintenance & resupply for the US Navy Submarines in support of War Plan Orange.
They were large ships, equipped with machine shops, foundries, bakery, specialized repair centers for various electronic equipment, and additional berthing areas for submarine crews. Unlike the steam driven Dixie & Vulcan Classes, the Fultons were diesel driven in order to be able to run large generators to recharge submarine batteries. The engines were also moved aft in comparison to the Vulcans so the torpedo warheads could be stored behind additional anti-torpedo protection amidships.
The 1/700 scale Loose Cannon kit depicts these ships in their pre war and WWII configuration, alternate parts such as both open & enclosed 5" guns and hull number decals are provided so it is possible to model the various ships of this class.
